For sale, we have a set of 4 uniquely shaped beautiful vintage Danish Mid Century Modern teak dining chairs by Arne Vodder, model Ella. Sculptural, strong, and sturdy frames are made of solid teak in warm hues.
Ella chairs feature sculpted blade profiles and a unique tilting mechanism in the backrests that adjusts to your sitting position. They would add some drama to an otherwise plain room.
The chairs have been taken apart, their frames have been cleaned and polished, and joints tightened where required. The black vinyl upholstery was not original, and the webbing and foam were gone completely, so we got them reupholstered in beautiful and durable soft wool mohair with new foam and new webbing, and the chairs are like new again.
The chairs are VERY comfortable. Approximate dims: seat height 18”x back height 31.5” x width 19.5”x depth 22”.
Mohair upholstery is a very plush, durable, and resilient velvet-type upholstery fabric that is shorn from Angora goats. It is easy to clean, resistant to moisture-wicking, stretching, and creasing, and inherently flame resistant. It is also expensive, with prices from $200 to $600 per yard and more.
As a graduate student in architecture trained by Finn Juhl, Vodder made his mark in the 1960s, when modern design had gained wide acceptance, particularly in the business world. Accordingly, many of Vodder’s chairs are quiet in form — projecting an air of sturdiness and strength, rather than avant-garde styling.
